MAMELODI Sundowns-linked Seiphelo High School in North West is impressed that Spain are following in their footsteps in their quest for 2010 World Cup glory.
La Roja, the reigning European kings, reached their first-ever World Cup final after a 1-0 win against Germany on Wednesday night.
Seiphelo led the way after being crowned the winners of "My 2010 School Adventure", an event that was organised by the government to create awareness of the World Cup.
The Potchefstroom-based school adopted the David Villa-led Spain in that tournament, which was also attended by Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke.
Three government departments - arts and culture, education as well as sports and recreation - were involved in this event where the Local Organising Committee were joint partners.
The department of arts and culture also used the competition to educate the participants about the South African national symbols, including the flag and national anthem.
The Seiphelo High School coach said: "We opened the floodgates for Spain and it clear that they are on track to emulate our success. I believe they will win on Sunday, but will have to show more hunger in front of goal."
