FORMER Sowetan nation-building partnerships projects ally Old Mutual is throwing a lifeline to brainy, indigent young people who wish to pursue careers in actuarial science or accounting.

Old Mutual cooperated and collaborated for more than a decade with Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation on the Community Builder of the Year Awards.

The company is now looking for talented children from previously disadvantaged backgrounds who are in grades 8 or 9 and who want to pursue careers in finance through its OM Learner's Scholarship Programme.

Through this programme, children who do not have access to high quality mathematics education because of financial constraints, will receive the golden opportunity to apply for a scholarship for Grade 10 through to Grade 12 at good South African schools.

Old Mutual has said that after successfully matriculating with the required grades, successful applicants would have the opportunity to apply for the OM Accounting and Actuarial University bursaries.

For further information, you can visit www.oldmutual.co.za/jumpahead.

The closing date for applications is July 31. - Victor Mecoamere
