Mobilise against tollgates now

A NUMBER of tollgates are being built on Gauteng's freeways and the reason seems to be to force motorists to use public transport.

This is illogical because we do not have reliable transport at all. I would have to walk about 3km for a taxi and I would have to take three taxis to get to work.

The cost of petrol is high and toll fees will seriously dent our pockets. It is said that payment can be made monthly by debiting our accounts, which will further overburden our accounts and expose us to fraud.

Unions such as Cosatu appear to be mum . Will they start talking only when the tollgates are operational? They should start mobilising now. Poor South Africans are not protected and are vulnerable. I don't remember any consultation. The tolls are also close to each other.
