THIS is a nerve-racking time for Nathi Lions players, with the National First Division club said to have a whopping 14 players whose contracts have not been renewed.

Songwe Chalwe is believed to have signed for MNT8 Cup champions Lamontville Golden Arrows, while Sipho Made and Phumulani Mhamha are linked with a move to Free State Stars.

But the rest of the players will join others who are uncertain of their future as teams delve into the transfer market to beef up their squads for the next season, and discard players deemed surplus to requirements.

This is the time of the season when players wait with anxiety as they are not aware of their fate at their clubs. They know life is difficult without a job.

Various First Division and Absa Premiership clubs recently confirmed players' movements.

In the NFD, last season's Inland Stream champions Black Leopards are releasing some of their key players.

They include Malawian international Fisher Kondowe, Mayasisilua Lubanzadio, Kaizer Montsi and Junior Sekete.

This was confirmed yesterday by the side's general manager, Sam Khaphathe.

Regarding their dangerman Lethola Mofokeng, who is said to have signed with Mpumalanga Black Aces, Khaphathe said: "It is news to us that Lethola has signed with Aces because he still has a season left in his contract with us. No team, including Aces, has approached us for Lethola's services."

In May Leopards placed their two Malawi internationals Peter Mponda and Robert Ng'ambi, as well as Walter Ramulondi, on the transfer list.

Inland Stream returnees FC AK have given Anthony Pitso, Edison Nkuna and Jabulani Nkabinda free clearances, according to chief executive Gene Petersen.
