MAMELODI Sundowns have dropped a bombshell by putting five players, including Kurt Lentjies, Derrick Spencer and Thuso Phala, on transfer.

The other two players who have been released are former South Africa Under-23 captain Robyn Johannes and full-back James Mayinga.

The decision to release the players was taken at a management meeting at the club's headquarters in Chloorkop last night.

Meanwhile, Downs have made Richard "Kimberely Express" Henyekane from Lamontville Golden Arrows their latest signing.

The other new recruits at Sundowns include Tshepo Ramokala, who joined from Platinum Stars and former Moroka Swallows player Sibusiso Khumalo.

The Brazilians have also roped in the Zimbabwean trio of Lionel Mtizwa, Nyasha Mushekwi and Method Mwanjali in an effort to solidify their team as they hope to end cross-town rivals SuperSport United's monopoly of the Absa Premiership in the new season.

Also present at the meeting was the club's new coach, Antonio Lopez, who was employed by president Patrice Motsepe three weeks ago.

The knowledgeable Argentinian worked for Sundowns as an assistant to Bulgarian head coach Hristo Stoichkov.

Lopez started his new job on Monday.

Motsepe is expected to unveil his new technical staff, which will also include Zipho Dlangalala, and the playing personnel, next week.
