Hunt should not reject Safa offer

CONGRATULATIONS Gavin Hunt on winning three PSL championships in a row with Super Sports United and topping this achievement with PSL coach of the year for three years. You have proven yourself as a coach.

CONGRATULATIONS Gavin Hunt on winning three PSL championships in a row with Super Sports United and topping this achievement with PSL coach of the year for three years. You have proven yourself as a coach.

If I had the power to make you Bafana's head coach I would have done that after Safa sacked Joel Santana at best, or 48 hours after Bafana's World Cup campaign at worst.

But if it is true that Safa approached you and you rejected this offer then, like wise men do, I change my mind. If you really think that going from head coach of Super Sports United to assistant coach is a demotion, Pitso Mosimane is the right man for the job. Mosimane had already turned the fortunes of Super Sports United before you arrived.

When Safa offered him the assistant coach position he took it without flinching. He served for four years because he values our football to the extent of sacrificing personal ambition to play a secondary role at national level.

Apparently you think that politics have blocked you from becoming coach, but how much international experience do you have? If I ask Mosimane the same question I guarantee you he will understand that politics has nothing to do with the national coach appointment.

Safa saw you as a future head coach, but wanted to give you international experience.

It would be unfortunate to lose you to another country. We seek not to attenuate your achievements.

Swallow your pride and accept the job if you really want to head Bafana in the future.
