THE news that Bafana Bafana's new head coach is Pitso Mosimane is good news.

THE news that Bafana Bafana's new head coach is Pitso Mosimane is good news.

There has been lengthy debates about relying on foreign coaches, who introduce an alien style of football to the African style, which disorganises players.Though there might be an element of truth in this, it takes away the real reason why African teams, particularly South Africa, are performing below expected standards,

Safa and the PSL must do their homework thoroughly about the status of soccer and give Mosimane adequate resources and cooperation. He and his team must be able to exercise their authority in the same way as the former coach .

The PSL must be firm in telling club bosses that national interests take precedence over personal and league interests.

If Mosimane is to build a strong national squad like SA Rugby has done, Safa and the PSL, with the aid of thegovernment, must start crafting decent soccer development programmes.

Appointing a local coach is not the answer to our worries. Ghana has a Serbian couch , but he also had a well-prepared team, which made his work easy.

Fifa rules about weeding out corrupt and incompetent authorities must be clear. The country must not be held to ransom and should get rid of out the bad apples.

Mosimane has every right to assert himself if his authority is undermined or if he does not receive the necessary help. The focus must not be on him alone. There must be greater focus on the interference of soccer bosses with their untouchable cloak of Fifa-infested rules that demoralises soccer loving people.
