On September 18, he will do just that when he challenges IBO welterweight champion Lovemore "Black Panther" Ndou at Emperors Palace. The fight will be presented by Golden Gloves Promotions.
Ndou has lived in Australia since 1995. The 38-year-old former IBF holder can count some great fighters among his 47 victims. His fight with Mwelase will be a titanic duel between a ringwise veteran and a relatively inexperienced but well-rounded foe.
Mwelase's biggest enemy seems to be his ballooning weight. He lost the WBF welterweight belt on the scale before his defence against Ali Nuumbembe, the Namibian Mwelase stopped in the seventh round in 2008.
Mwelase moved up to the junior middleweight division. He won the WBF's belt in his first fight in the heavier division on August 7 last year.
Trainer Johnny du Plooy, who hones the skills of this left-handed Sowetan, said: "The fight will not go the full distance.
"Mwelase is back at welterweights and guys won't be able to handle him."
