AN INTERNATIONAL survey conducted recently by IBM has revealed that Johannesburg is the third worst city in the world to commute or drive in.

The first two cities are Beijing and Mexico City.

Motorists and commuters polled in these cities said they had to endure increasingly harsh and long hours in traffic over the past three years.

The survey found that the increase in traffic congestion was due to rapid economic growth in these cities during the past decade.

What the survey missed, especially in Johannesburg, is that motorists and commuters have to contend with striking workers who trash the streets and roads; the many potholes even on city roads, as well as the blue-light brigade who willy-nilly bulldoze those in their way into submission.
