THE acclaimed Canadian musical production, Saltimbanco, which has toured the world, is expected to make a short stop in South Africa next year.

Presented by Cirque du Soleil, one of the biggest Canadian entertainment companies, the show will be exclusive to Joburg and Cape Town people.

It will open on March 9 and run until March 12 at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg. The production will then move to the Grand West Arena Casino in Cape Town from March 23 to 27.

Since its inception in 1992 the show has toured Europe, North and South America, Australia, Japan and New Zealand. About 11,5million enthusiastic fans have seen this thrilling production.

Saltimbanco, which in Italian means to jump on a bench, is a thrilling and kaleidoscopic celebration of inspiring artistry and agility.

With a cast of 50 high-calibre artists hailing from 20 different countries, Saltimbanco features breathtaking acrobatics and unbelievable athleticism during solo spotlights and epic ensembles.

The show creatively balances jumping and spinning, Chinese poles or the Russian swing with acrobatic bicycle.

Its technical expertise and extravagant design are fused together by uplifting spectacular costumes, amazing lighting, humour and enchanting music and magic.

Full of colour, amusement and amazement, Saltimbanco is a fun show for the whole family to enjoy.

With its visual vocabulary the show's eclectic cast of characters draws spectators into a impulsive, dreamlike world, an imaginary city where diversity is a cause for hope.

The world premiere of Saltimbanco was in Montreal on April 23 1992 and since then it has visited more than 75 cities.
