RESIDENTS of informal settlements under the eThekwini municipality have breathed a sigh of relief as it continues with a multimillion-rand sanitation project.

The KwaZulu-Natal residents said yesterday they hoped the R375million project will help curb disease outbreaks.

"The days of dumping waste in the streets are over because our toilets now have running water," said Zachariah Buthelezi.

The project, which started last year, has distributed more than 168 modified containers in Umlazi, Clermont,Kenville and Sea Cow Lake. - Khulekani Mazibuko
