Derby-Lewis deserves parole

IT IS interesting to note that the SACP is now at the forefront of those opposed to Clive Derby-Lewis' release on parole, yet they remained mum when a corrupt fraudster, Shabir Shaik, who miraculously is now fitter than even the Bafana Bafana team, was released on a botched medical parole.

What double standards and hypocrisy to apply one rule to some and another to others.

More disgusting is the fact that Blade Nzimande, who is assigned to turn around higher education, is neglecting that role to concentrate on issues that have no impact on our educational system, particularly at tertiary level.

Derby-Lewis should not be treated badly simply because he killed Chris Hani. The Correctional Services Act entitles him to parole. This is not a political issue, but a legal one involving the interpretation of the legislation.
