Cup spirit must inspire HIV battle

AN UNPRECEDENTED benchmark has been set and it is time to move speedily towards delivering an impeccable service for all our people.

AN UNPRECEDENTED benchmark has been set and it is time to move speedily towards delivering an impeccable service for all our people.

The target has to be re-focused on education, not only academically but in all spheres of our lives.

It is imperative for our leaders not to compromise on the wellness of our people.

It is unbelievable that no stone was left unturned and no penny was left untouched in ensuring that the Fifa World Cup is delivered on time and as efficiently as we have proudly witnessed.

Therefore, there is no excuse why the same commitment and budget cannot be made available to pursue the priorities that are aimed at making life better for our nation.

We must move mountains to create sustainable jobs, to create more educational opportunities for the young, to ensure that health services are improved at public hospitals.

Entrepreneurs must be given the platform from which to grow and sustain the wellness of our recovering economy.

The time for excuses has expired and I believe that President Jacob Zuma must lead from the front in terms of curbing and nipping corruption in the bud.

Civil servants must be forced to account for their lack of action. Service delivery must also be seen to be happening on the ground.

Most importantly, the millions of people living with HIV must be taken care of in terms of treatment, care and support.

As we speak, our struggle for life has been silently infiltrated and sabotaged over a period of time.

It almost seems as if HIV and infected individuals have been obliterated from the face of this earth.

We cannot afford to be complacent because the re-emergence of this ever-present threat remains present with every passing second.

As we speak, hundreds of people continue to die as a consequence of opportunistic infections when HIV should be a manageable disease like diabetes, and so on.

Our infected spirits are inflated and let them remain at that level forever.
