Stop deaths of youth in the name of culture

IN AS much as I respect all cultural beliefs in our diverse society, some need to be revisited or modernised.

Cultural relativism is the view that no culture is superior as long as we don't "hurt" anyone. However, the growing number of circumcision deaths is a serious cause for concern. Yes, we have no right to judge or punish anyone for their beliefs nor can we say this is right and that is wrong, but society changes and morality becomes a moving target. Some customs might have worked perfectly in ancient times, but when practised today, they produce different outcomes.

Taking one step too far, as circumcision relativism does, is a disaster, hence more and more initiates are dying.
