A CHORAL stage musical that celebrates Oliver Reginald Tambo's life opens tomorrow at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria.
The late political stalwart who died in 1993 will be given a moving tribute that will comprise both choral music and dance. The show will run until July 11. Supported by the Department of Arts and Culture, the whole production will be headed by musician Victor Ntoni. Ntoni, a legendary musician, bassist and composer will also be a conductor of this musical.
Thembi Mahambehlala, one of the organisers, said the purpose of the production was to give national tourists and those who don't know more about Tambo an insight into his life.
"Let people find out who is this man. Fusing choral with jazz music and enhancing it with dance was the only way to tell the story."
There will be an ensemble that consists of 20 voices, an 18-piece band, 12 strings and traditional dancers.
Top artists such as Lawrence Matshiza, Feya Faku and McCoy Mrubathaare included in the ensemble.
The performances are a historic journey through the life of OR and will be narrated by the popular poet cum-praise singer Jessica Mbangeni.
