HUNDREDS of England and Germany fans invaded the Bloemfontein Waterfront area next to the city's Free State Stadium yesterday.

They filled restaurants and the Waterfront Mall's food court area to capacity.

With English flags hanging over the Waterfront side the mood in the area was changed into an English village atmosphere, with fans were relaxing in the sun and enjoying themselves.

It was impossible to move in some areas in front of restaurants since soccer fans, unable to get tables inside, stood around in groups enjoying their drinks.

A lot of visitors asked about other restaurants close to the stadium which were serving drinks as they were placed on "waiting lists" for beers and drinks.

A jovial mood prevailed at the Waterfront, with no indication of trouble as many German fans were seen taking photographs with English "Bobbies" present outside the stadium.

Police, in riot gear, were highly visible around the stadium. - Sapa
