Sardines awaited

SARDINES activity monitors on Durban's coastline are holding thumbs that shoals of tiny silver fish make their arrival before the end of the World Cup.

Head of Operations at the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Mike Anderson-Reade said although the sardines traditionally arrived in May and June it was not unusual for the fish to show up in July.

"It will be great for the province of KwaZulu-Natal if the many foreign visitors can get a glimpse of the sardines." - Corrinne Louw

l THE sight of the charred remains of an infant trapped in a burnt car shocked paramedics while they were also trying to rescue two women in the same car.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks the two women were lucky to be alive.

This happened after the car they were travelling in caught fire when it collided witha bakkie on the N2 near Adams Road in Amanzimtoti. - Corrinne Louw

l The hearing against six suspects accused of robbing a hotel in Mpumalanga and holding up a Chilean soccer fan Sergio Divona was postponed again in the Nelspruit regional court yesterday.

George Ngomane, 31; Dumisani Nkosi, 26; Prince Masuku, 20; Thabang Mashaba, 21; Kingly Moloi, 32; and Sylvester Masuku, 24, were remanded in custody pending their next court appearance on Friday. - Masoka Dube
