"I AM turning 31 and I am officially falling off the calendar," said Kwela Tebza's Tebogo Lerole on Friday night.

Lerole hand-picked 250 people from his e-mail database to whom he sent personalised invitations to his birthday party. By the morning of the big event he had received 1 200 RSVPs.

Speaking about his evening, Lerole said: "We are at the top of a building in Sandton, and I'm surrounded by my brothers and schlebs in the Zar Lounge - what more could I ask for on my birthday.

"I am having a great night. The champagne is flowing, plus I see lots of people smoking cigars. I am so impressed with my guests - my birthday theme was 'Black Tie', and everyone has made an effort. They are really rocking my party."

Warming up the crowd on the Zar Lounge dance floor before the live entertainment were DJs Vetkoek, Milkshake and TboTouch.

Lerole even asked DJ Bradley, who played at his 21st birthday party, to make a sentimental appearance.

The usual A-listers, such as Julius Malema, Pro-Kid, Uyanda Mbuli and Khanyi Mbau, showed up. Teargas first performed solo and then with Vusi, followed by Big Nuz, who brought the house down with their Sama hits.

Lerole would not reveal exactly how much the shindig cost.

"I have had to fly the artists who are performing, pay for their accommodation and their performance booking fees. I even organised their costumes so that they could fit in with my theme.

"I am going to just let the bar tab run as well because you know how people like to enjoy their bubbly and wine on evenings like this. I called it the Goodbye Youth and Hello to Success and Growth Party."
