MORE than 40 young aspirant film-makers from across the continent have made it to the third edition of Talent Campus Durban, an initiative born out of the Durban International Film Festival.

The initiative is aimed at honing the skills of young filmmakers and to introduce aspirant moviemakers to the industry and showcase their work during the festival which takes place in the Banana City from July 22 to August 1.
The 40 participants come from 20 countries such as Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo DRC, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana and South Africa, among others.
They were chosen through a rigorous application process and will take part in an intensive five-day programme of workshops and master classes. They will also have the opportunity to attend screenings and events at the 31st Durban International Film Festival (DIFF).
Themed Focusing on Africa: Unleashing Talent in 2010, the third edition is aimed at the development and strengthening of partnerships among African filmmakers.
"Talent Campus Durban is held in cooperation with the Berlinale Talent Campus, the eighth edition of which formed part of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival in February this year," said Monica Rorvik, assistant manager of the festival.
"It is a global partnership and apart from the main event in Berlin, Talent Campus partnerships take place at selected festivals in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Guadalajara (Mexico) and Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina). It is a considerable privilege and sign of success of the first two editions that DIFF has again been invited to host a Talent Campus," she said.
Rorvik said this year's influx of talented filmmakers brought an exciting set of skills to Campus, with their range of expertise covering acting, editing, directing, producing, and script writing.
"The Campus will facilitate opportunities to bring Africa's stories to life through the creative vision of these film-making talents," she said.
