United gear up for Confed

ABSA Premiership champions SuperSport United have refused to allow the 2010 Fifa World Cup to distract them in their preparations for the 2010 African Confederation Cup.

ABSA Premiership champions SuperSport United have refused to allow the 2010 Fifa World Cup to distract them in their preparations for the 2010 African Confederation Cup.

The three-time Premiership kings regrouped on Tuesday to start pre-season training under the watchful eye of wily coach Gavin Hunt and his assistant Thomas Madigage.

Matsatsantsa a Pitori will play FUS Rabat of Morocco for a place in the group stage of the competition.

The first leg of the tie will take place in Gauteng on the weekend of July 30. The return match will take place in Casablanca, Morocco, two weeks later.

"We are back and everybody who is not part of the World Cup is hard at training as we speak," said United's communications director David "Mazolman" Skosana yesterday.

"The World Cup will come and go, but the problem is that soon after the final match we will be playing the team from Morocco.

"Our aim is to do well in the Confederation Cup after bombing out in the African Champions League. Our team will be a well-oiled machine at the end of the World Cup because of the intensive pre-season training camp."

Meanwhile, Bloemfontein Celtic are on the verge of signing United's defender Tsietsi Mahoa, who is reportedly on Orlando Pirates' wanted list.
