Grannies play Rhoo's academy

VAKHEGULA Vakhegula, the celebrated grannies' football team in Limpopo, have been invited to Johannesburg today for an exhibition match as part of the 2010 Fifa World Cup celebrations.

VAKHEGULA Vakhegula, the celebrated grannies' football team in Limpopo, have been invited to Johannesburg today for an exhibition match as part of the 2010 Fifa World Cup celebrations.

The team which was started by renowned community worker and SABC presenter Beka Ntsanwisi, will play against former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe's academy side.

The match has been made possible by Bafana technical sponsor Adidas, an official partner of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. Manchester City superstar and Togo captain, Emmanuel Adebayor, will be part of the celebrations, as will some Orlando Pirates players.

Adebayor, who is in the country for the World Cup, has described the tournament as a memorable one for the African continent.

But he would expect no less, having been among the first global sports celebrities to endorse South Africa to host a successful World Cup.

The talented grannies will also use today's match to sharpen themselves for a world tournament in the United States next month.

They have appealed to South Africans to assist them financially with donations.
