World Cup will not benefit poor people

THE World Cup will not benefit the poor or unite South Africans at large.

This is the World Cup of the elite; those who can afford tickets and who can go to fan parks. Places such as Ventersdorp and Eastern Cape where racial tensions erupted earlier this year, will remain the same during and after the tourney.

When we won the Rugby World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations, people hugged and kissed in jubilation. But it didn't last.

The money spent would have built more schools, clinics, RDP houses and provided millions with clean water.
