Karateka for Bafana

SOUTH African karateka, who will compete in a tournament in Barcelona this weekend, will wear Bafana Bafana replica jerseys to support the squad in its quest to do well in the World Cup finals.

SOUTH African karateka, who will compete in a tournament in Barcelona this weekend, will wear Bafana Bafana replica jerseys to support the squad in its quest to do well in the World Cup finals.

Karate Organisation of South Africa spokesperson Peter "Poison" Thage said they wanted to show international spectators that all sporting codes in South Africa were behind Bafana.

"We are fully behind Bafana Bafana and they made all of us proud in their opening match against Mexico," Thage said yesterday.

Thage said they hoped the World Cup would be a major success as this would boost their bid to host the 2014 World Karate Tournament.

"We will be sending a team to Barcelona this week to present our bid.

"Safa and Fifa have simplified everything for our bid by bringing us the World Cup. We want to congratulate the Local Organising Committee under chairperson Dr Irvin Khoza for making South Africa proud. Our government has also done a great job in helping the LOC in all the preparations for the tournament and the opening ceremony was awesome."
