A MAN was questioned by the police after he was spotted selling tickets for the World Cup match between Spain and Switzerland at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium yesterday.
He was seen selling category two tickets for R500 each, but when a queue for the tickets formed, he and another man upped their prices to R600 a ticket and later to R700 each.
Police noticed the queue and went to investigate. They took the man away, while the other entered the stadium unhindered.
A Sapa reporter said they had many tickets on them and one man was seen handing over R4000 for tickets.
A police constable on duty outside the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, where touts were also operating, said he didn't know if the practice was illegal or not.
But Colonel Vishna Naidoo, 2010 World Cup police spokesperson, said: "Our members know about the ticket touting. We will take measures against those who ignore this. We have cameras monitoring all the activities inside and outside the stadiums and if there were people involved in ticket touting, we will find them." - Sapa and additional reporting by Luzuko Pongoma
