MILAN - Rafael Benitez visited the Inter Milan training camp yesterday, a day before being officially presented as new coach at the European champions.

The 50-year-old Spaniard spent the morning touring the training facilities at Appiano Gentile, 50km northwest of Milan. With him was his assistant Amedeo Carboni, a former Italian defender.

Benitez arrived with his wife at a hotel in Milan on Sunday.

After six seasons with Liverpool, Benitez faces the daunting task of taking over from Jose Mourinho at Inter.

"My first sensations in Italy are very positive," Benitez said. "I cannot say anything else."

He dodged questions about market matters.

Commentators said that, unlike Mourinho, Benitez is likely to have a good relationship with Italy, which he has frequently praised.
