A with-it judge

THE special 2010 World Cup courts set up to dispense swift justice appear to be delivering as promised.

THE special 2010 World Cup courts set up to dispense swift justice appear to be delivering as promised.

Two scoundrels already felt the weight of these courts last week when they were each sentenced to 15 years for stealing from our visitors.

There are reportedly 56 courts, involving 256 staffers, including judges, magistrates, prosecutors, advocates, interpreters and clerks of the court.

One of the judges, Deputy Judge President Willem van der Merwe, got a standing ovation last week - not for dispensing swift justice but for appearing in a formal courtroom wearing a Bafana Bafana T-shirt.

The legal fraternity was delighted and enthusiastic cheers went up in the packed Pretoria high court when the honourable judge took off his gown to display his bright yellow shirt.

In tune with the Cup punchline the judge was indeed feeling it, it's here!
