FOUR people were killed and 11 others injured when the minibus taxi they were travelling in flipped on the N8 near Bloemfontein yesterday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the taxi lost control and overturned just before midday on the N8 between Bloemfontein and Botshabelo.

"Paramedics arrived at the accident to find total carnage, with debris and injured people spread along the highway. Some of the passengers were trapped under the wreckage of the taxi and emergency services had their hands full to free them," he said in a statement.

Four people died on the scene. Two passengers were taken to the Pelonomi Hospital in a critical condition, along with seven others who sustained serious injuries. Two "miraculously escaped" with minor injuries. - Sapa
