ANGLO American, Sowetan's long-time nation-building Young Communicators Awards ally is helping ease the woes of the devastating earthquake in Chile in February.

The company has just completed the construction of six modular schools for nearly 4500 children. The last two of the six schools were inaugurated at Yungay and Cocholgüe in Chile's eighth region by John MacKenzie, chief executive of Anglo American Copper, Miguel Ángel Durán, Anglo American Chile chief executive and Joaquín Lavín, Chile's education minister.

MacKenzie said the construction had enabled the pupils not to lose their school year. The schools have been built with high quality, durable materials resistant to extreme weather conditions and are equipped with furniture, computer rooms, libraries and study materials.
