TWO sets of winners of the yearly Anglo American and Sowetan Young Communicators Awards were chosen in Gauteng and Northern Cape at the weekend.

Keobakile Lenyibi, Ipeleng Serero and Shanice Titus were chosen in Kimberley and Aisha Kholane, Schalk Bezuidenhout and Ricky Mathebula in Johannesburg.

Lenyibi and Kholane will represent Northern Cape and Gauteng in the finals in Johannesburg in August.

They will join Free State's Tshepo Mabuya, KwaZulu-Natal's Ndumiso Mngomezulu, Limpopo's Phuphu Mohlaba and North West's Dineo Ratshwene.

Three other provincial heats will be held in Mpumalanga on July 17, Eastern Cape on July 24 and Western Cape on July 31. The YCA, whose other nation-building partner is the Department of Basic Education, has been running for 17 years. It encourages proficiency in English, fosters nation-building, leadership development, assertiveness and confidence

Protea Hotels help the project with good discounts on accommodation and Anglo American's subsidiaries are provincial sponsors.

We thank the Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo legislatures for hosting provincial contests.
