Sulley Muntari, one of the most reliable of the Black Stars players, had predicted that the West Africans were eyeing a semifinal place in the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
In Germany, Ghana were eliminated in the second round after being hammered 3-0 by Brazil, which also served as their first World Cup appearance.
Muntari, who plays for Italian giants Inter Milan, said they were out to make a good impression in their opening match against Serbia at Loftus Stadium on Sunday at 4pm.
"Our immediate task is to get out of our group stages and get to the semifinals, we have a very good chance of going all the way in the tournament.
"After the success of the 2006 World Cup, the expectations back home are high for us to go further."
Muntari, whose team has enjoyed success in soccer at all levels, said Germany will start as favourites to finish on top in their group.
"It goes without saying that Germany will start as favourites in Group D to qualify for the second round, we are eyeing the second spot but will have to brush aside Serbia."
The Serbians, who include the celebrated Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic and Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, were pipped 4-3 by Cameroon last week.
Three-time World Cup winners Germany start their campaign against Australia at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday at 8.30pm, where Lukas Podolski and Mario Gomez should be too strong for the Socceroos.
