MEET some of more than the 150000 Johannesburg residents who celebrated World Environment Day by cleaning 74 sites throughout Joburg.

The campaign was the second Pikitup Clean-Up Day at the weekend. This group worked at Sowetan'sclean-up site near Soccer City.

Some of the participating celebrities who helped in this worthy cause included retired soccer legend Marks Maponyane, radio and television hosts Penny Lebyane and Nothemba Madumo, actress Sophie Ndaba, actors and crews of e-tv soapies Scandal and Rhythm City, SABC3 drama 7de Laan, SABC environmental awareness show 50/50 and the Golden Lions's rugby team's management and team.

In all, the volunteers in this far-sighted nation-building project of the City of Johannesburg's waste management company Pikitup were expected to fill more than 63000 refuse bags and rid the city of more than 255tons of waste.
