Fun at Fan Fest and stadiums

MORE than 30000 soccer lovers are expected to converge on Mpumalanga's Mbombela Fifa Fan Fest at Hoerskool Bergvlam today to watch the game between Bafana Bafana and Mexico.

MORE than 30000 soccer lovers are expected to converge on Mpumalanga's Mbombela Fifa Fan Fest at Hoerskool Bergvlam today to watch the game between Bafana Bafana and Mexico.

Mbombela's World Cup coordinator Differ Mogale said the Fan Fest would open daily from 10am to 11pm.

"Minors under the age of 14 must be accompanied by adults. Police, private security and CCTV cameras will ensure the safety of all during the game. A special queue will be arranged for the disabled, pensioners and mothers with babies," he said.

Mogale said the purpose of the Fan Fest was to offer a safe, convenient and convivial alternative to being at the stadium. He said there would be no parking available at the Fan Fest except for VIPs. People will not be allowed to enter the venue with food or drinks.

The department of arts, culture, sport and recreation, in partnership with Boxer Superstores, will host public viewing areas (PVAs) in the following towns:

Themba Senamela Stadium in Mhluzi, Middelburg; eMbalenhle Stadium in the Gert Sibande municipality; Kameelrivier Stadium in the Dr JS Moroka municipality; Mayflower Stadium in the Albert Luthuli municipality.

Spectators in Ehlanzeni can go to Thulamahashe or KaMhlushwa stadiums.

Entrance to the Fan Fest and PVAs is free, Mogale said.
