Played in Sante Fe, Argentina, the team notched up 11 tries in the Pool C clash at the Estadio CA Colon Stadium and are displaying the kind of form that will give them confidence as the competition develops.
"We're very happy with the win and equally happy that we have now managed to allow all 25 of our players in the squad some game time after two matches," coach Eric Sauls said after the game. "The guys stuck to the structures and scored some great tries today. What was also pleasing to me was to test all our combinations, and it's great to see that there's not a big difference between our first choices and our back-up players.
"We were solid on defence and look sharp on attack," Sauls said.
Two of the stars of the victory were winger Wandile Mjekevu and fullback Patric Lambie. After an impressive Super 14 debut for the Sharks this year, Lambie is displaying the maturity and skills well beyond his 19 years.
Eight conversions illustrates his kicking game is equal to the other skills he already displays. Lambie also chipped in with a try.
For Mjekevu, the road has had a few more twists to it. His baptism to Super 14 rugby was at times uncomfortable for the talented youngster but a spell with SA Sevens coach Paul Treu appears to be paying dividends.
"I am really proud of the guys who turned up today and scored 11 tries," said captain Christiaan "CJ" Stander.
"It would have been an achievement for us to score four tries and get the bonus point, but we managed to achieve a lot more. We'll enjoy the win and start our focus for our final pool game."
The Baby Boks' next game is against Australia, at the same venue, on Sunday at 9pm, SA time.
