Simba more than a match for Moyo

FLO Simba might still be wet behind the ears as a professional fighter, but the 21-year-old's future in the fistic sport looks bright.

FLO Simba might still be wet behind the ears as a professional fighter, but the 21-year-old's future in the fistic sport looks bright.

Simba has only four fights in the paid ranks, but he has been seen as a Gerrie Coetzee in the making.

The Congolese fighter is getting rave reviews from renowned trainers, managers and promoters.

Those who think highly of this heavyweight fighter include Rodney Berman, Harold Volbrecht, Brian Mitchell and analyst Terry Pettifer. The introverted Simba was Boxing SA's 2009 prospect of the year.

Simba has already set tongues wagging in boxing despite a mere four fights at the professional level. He won all of them via the short route.

His exploits in the ring have earned him the monicker "Demolition Man" and his opponents will need to demonstrate character and zeal if they harbour any hopes of upsetting him.

Simba is currently preparing for a six-rounder against Zimbabwean Elvis Moyo at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni on June 19.

"I have no doubt that my charge will beat Moyo," said Volbrecht, the accomplished mentor who has produced many world champions, including WBO heavyweight holder Corrie Sanders.

Mitchell, who manages Simba, is fast-tracking his charge to be a complete fighter. The Simba-Moyo showdown forms part of the Blockbuster bill put together by promoter Rodney Berman's Golden Gloves Promotions.

Simba had six bouts as an amateur fighter but his growth has been impressive since he turned professional on October 31 last year.

His victims so far include Stephen Castle and Wiseman Dlomo.
