Sangomas predict good SA display

THE ancestors have spoken. Bafana Bafana will go beyond the group stages of the World Cup.

THE ancestors have spoken. Bafana Bafana will go beyond the group stages of the World Cup.

But they will not win the tournament.

These are the predictions of sangomas and a pastor Sowetan visited this week.

They were all convinced that Carlos Alberto Parreira's charges would spring surprises in the group stages.

Nomusa Magwaza, of Green Village in Soweto, predicted an impressive opening match for Bafana.

"I see Bafana winning their first game 4-0 (against Mexico). They will win all their group matches until they reach the quarterfinals, but that is where their journey will end," Magwaza said.

But Magwaza warned that there could be trouble brewing, and it could spill over after the tournament.

"Matches will go ahead and there won't be any disruptions to the World Cup. But after the tournament, there will be a lot of infighting among administrators and it will largely be due to money from the tournament."

She said this ruction will see one of the administrators going to court.

"One of them has a secret about the other, which he will want to reveal, but the other one will seek legal action in order to stop him from spilling the beans," she said.

Another sangoma, who did not want to be identified, said: "Bafana will do very well. They are certainly not going to win it, but they will reach the second round."

Matome Malesa, of Nobody outside Polokwane, said Bafana would win two matches and draw one in the group stages, enough to take them to the knockout stages.

Lighthouse Covenant Church pastor Holy-Mike Mabugama, of Polokwane, said Bafana would progress to the next round.

"They will beat Mexico 2-1 and will also do well against France and Uruguay."

Sylvester Hlathi, a sangoma from Giyani, said: "Bafana will play to a 1-all draw with Mexico and will do well in their other matches."
