Only two players have no ties to the top two teams in this year's Super 14 - captain John Smit and prop BJ Botha. And while clashes with New Zealand's All Blacks are what legends are made of, in recent years France have caused the most problems for the Boks.
In their past nine encounters South Africa have won only three times.
"They have had a good season and they were very good in the Six Nations," Smit said.
"They play a physical game, they look for forward domination and they like to move the ball with the backs."
With regular Springbok scrumhalf Fourie du Preez on the sidelines until next year with a shoulder injury, De Villiers has once again chosen Ricky Januarie. He had a mixed day at the office last week against Wales, but the coach is giving him another start, hoping extra game time will help.
It's a new combination in the loose forwards, with Francois Louw packing down in the openside flanker position while Schalk Burger on the other side of the scrum.
A little surprising is the dropping of Juan de Jongh after an impressive debut last weekend. Filling his boots in the midfield is the solid Wynand Olivier.
