THANK you for publishing Sello Rabothata's review of my book Laduma! Soccer, Politics and Society in South Africa, from its origins to 2010.
It is obviously a wonderful turn of events that has led, finally, to a deeper interest in writing seriously about South African football.
I would like to point out something very important that Rabothata overlooked in his review.
That is that the first edition of my book was published six years before the books by Joe Latagkomo and Alphie Koonyaditse.
Rabothata makes it seem as if we all wrote and published these works simultaneously.
In fact, Latagkomo and Koonyaditse rely heavily on my book, which remains the only scholarly history of football in South Africa.
