COUNSEL for former top cop Jackie Selebi took a swipe at convicted drug trafficker Glenn Agliotti yesterday, saying he was an "unscrupulous, dangerous man".

Presenting his closing arguments in Selebi's trial in the Johannesburg high court, Advocate Jaap Cilliers SC said it was unfair of the state to rely on Agliotti's evidence.

Agliotti had admitted to "implicating" Selebi to earn himself a deal with the authorities regarding the Brett Kebble murder case and a drug smuggling case.

"Agliotti is a very dangerous man. He's unscrupulous," Cilliers said.

Testifying in court last year Agliotti said he had given Selebi millions of rands.

The state alleges that Selebi received kickbacks of up to R1,2million from the Kebbles, which was handed over to him by Agliotti.

Some of the money was withdrawn from the Springlights company account, the state alleges. But Cilliers disputed this. - Sapa
