MOGALE City municipality has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Portuguese Football Federation to help develop the beautiful game in the area.

The agreement was signed between executive mayor Koketso Seerane and the federation's general secretary, Angelo Brou.

Led by Christiano Ronaldo, Portugal is one of the two teams who have set up camp in Mogale City.

The other team is the Socceroos of Australia, who are based at a lodge in Muldersdrift. Portugal are staying at Valley Lodge in Magaliesburg.

An ecstatic Seerane said part of the agreement between the municipality and Portugal includes setting up a soccer academy in Mogale City.

"The agreement will also facilitate the establishment of a football club in collaboration with the development bodies.

"We will also have exchange programmes for players between Mogale City and Portugal, who will also conduct coaching clinics. The partnership will also help provide scholarships to upcoming football stars in Mogale City."

Brou's federation has also committed itself to opening some of their training sessions to members of the Mogale City community.

"We are over the moon to host two of the top teams in the world, it's a great platform to promote tourism in our area," Seerane said.
