Mabizela injury not too serious

PLATINUM Stars defender Mbulelo Mabizela is recovering well from a leg injury he suffered in a friendly against England on Monday.

PLATINUM Stars defender Mbulelo Mabizela is recovering well from a leg injury he suffered in a friendly against England on Monday.

The former Bafana Bafana and Tottenham Hotspur defender was reminded of English Premiership hardships when fiery England forward Wayne Rooney clattered into him in the match the English won 3-0 at Moruleng Stadium.

While it initially looked like an innocuous tackle, Mabizela had to be rushed to hospital for a scan that revealed a bruised shin. He will be out for two weeks, Stars' manager Obed Legobate said yesterday.

"His ligament was not totally torn," Legobate said. "There is no fracture."

Rooney appeared to struggle to keep his temper in check after he came on in the second half. The Manchester United striker would do well to heed referee Jeff Selogilwe's advice after he let rip at an official and was warned that such behaviour could cost him at the World Cup. Rooney apologised to the referee. lSee Page 31
