BOJANALA Platinum district municipality will officially open the 2010 Fifa World Cup public viewing area today, two days before the kickoff of the tournament.

"It will be situated at the Makapanstad Stadium in the Moretele local municipality," said Bojanala Platinum executive mayor Raymond Motsepe.

"We have identified Moretele local municipality, in particular the village of Makapanstad, so that our people in that area can also have a feel of the World Cup.

"We thought it will be a great idea to bring the World Cup closer to them because not everybody will be able to go to Royal Bafokeng Stadium or any of the match venues in the country. We are inviting the communities around Moretele local municipality, the municipality will provide transport to ferry them to the public viewing area on Wednesday (today)."

Bojanala sports manager Innocent Sirovha said the day's programme will start with coaching clinics.

"We will have just over 400 boys and girls from around the municipality's primary and secondary schools being taught the basics of soccer by various experts," he said, adding that they would also have a mini five-a-side tournament featuring 16 teams.

Sirovha, who is also the South African Schools Football Association deputy president, said the mayor will present World Cup tickets to all the 14 teams that have qualified for the Mayoral Cup final matches since its inception in 2007.

"They will be given tickets to watch matches at Royal Bafokeng Stadium and Peter Mokaba Sports Complex in Polokwane," he said.

"Bojanala Platinum municipality will pay for transport and accommodation for those who will go to Polokwane."
