'We are ready for kick-off'

KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, Willies Mchunu, is over the moon at the state of the province's readiness three days before the World Cup kick-off.

"I am happy with the state of readiness in all aspects of hosting the matches for the World Cup in the province. The infrastructure that has been developed in the city is marvellous," he said.

"I have visited the base camps for all the teams that will be staying in KwaZulu-Natal and everything is excellent.

"So far, not a single team has lodged a complaint since their arrival, from the airport to the hotels to the training venues and, to a large extent, the communities they are staying in."

Mchunu said there had been a "slight concern" about the possibility of taxi operators disrupting operations during the tournament but this would not be the case after signing a memorandum of understanding with all taxi associations.
