"The accused, a policeman with appreciation that he could be the target of many a shrewd corrupter, ensured that his bank account did not reveal transactions regarding unexplained money," Nel said in closing arguments in Selebi's corruption trial.
Selebi, pictured, who Nel described as an "appalling witness who changed his versions", allegedly laundered foreign currency Agliotti gave him in exchange for favours.
"The accused had dollars to sell and failed to explain to the court where he obtained the currency. The only reasonable inference must be that he received them from Agliotti.
"Unfortunately for the accused, his secretary could not assist him in explaining why he would buy euros to the value of R13064 on an advance of R8537,17 on a trip to France," Nel said. - Sapa
