SAFA, BAFANA SETTLE BONUS

BAFANA Bafana players will receive around R4 million each and a brand-new Mercedez Benz - but only if they win the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

BAFANA Bafana players will receive around R4 million each and a brand-new Mercedez Benz - but only if they win the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

This is part of the agreement reached between the players's representative Tony Irish and Safa's chief executive officer Leslie Sedibe.

Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira will also get the same incentives as the players in terms of the contract he negotiated with Safa.

Both parties would not discuss the breakdown, but a source whispered that "each player will get just over R3,5 million and a brand-new Merc for winning the World Cup.

"This includes getting R50000 match appearance, an additional R120000 for a win or R50000 for a draw."

Cape Town-based Irish praised Safa for being "very professional about the whole negotiation process."

The players asked Irish to represent them because they wanted to focus on the World Cup.

This deal is over and above the R1million incentive offered for each goal in a win or draw.

Sedibe refused to divulge the details of the bonus. "All that I can tell you is that we have reached an agreement with the players' representative regarding the issue of bonuses for the World Cup.

"We have taken a decision as Safa not to discuss the bonuses with any other person, we are happy that the whole process is over and all the parties are happy," he said.

"We are happy that South Africans are embracing Bafana Bafana in their numbers, guaranteeing support for the team during the games. I'm satisfied with the level of preparation for Bafana Bafana. In January when I took over, there was no team that people had confidence in.

"In the World Cup, anything is possible. What we are asking for from the players is to play with commitment and passion."
