Revamp for derelict college

THE provincial government has committed itself to resuscitating the deteriorating former KwaGqikazi College in Nongoma, northern Zululand.

The commitment was made by legislature speaker Peggy Nkonyeni during their sitting in Nongoma last week. The college has been renamed Mthashana FET College.

Nkonyeni's commitment came after Zulu monarch King Goodwill Zwelithini urged the provincial government not to forget Nongoma.

Zwelithini particularly mentioned the state of the deteriorating former KwaGqikazi College, saying the government should investigate ways to renovate it and turn it into the productive educational institution it once was.

Nkonyeni undertook that the legislature that, together with the provincial government, would investigate ways of resuscitating the institution to save it from deteriorating.

People came from all Zululand local councils such as eDumbe, Abaqulusi, Ulundi, Nongoma and Pongola.

Meanwhile, the IFP has criticised the exercise.
