EX-STAR SHOWS REMORSE

FORMER Orlando Pirates star Mandla "Metroblitz" Sithole has told the Roodepoort magistrate's court that he did not mean to stab and kill a young man over R100 owed to him.

Sithole took the stand on Friday to give his account of the events that led to the death of Thulani Ndlovu, 31, in Dobsonville, Soweto.

The incident happened in May last year.

"I'm very hurt. I just wanted to scare him," Sithole said.

Sithole told the court that he was driving past Dobsonville in Soweto when he saw Ndlovu. He stopped to ask for his money, but Ndlovu said he did not have it.

"I took a battery charger from his car and walked to my car. He followed me but I didn't see him. I put the charger in my bakkie," Sithole said. "When I tried to climb in he pushed against the door and it hit my shoulder.

"He wanted to take the charger. We started pushing and throttling each other. There was a knife in the car. I had been eating an apple."

He said he told Ndlovu that if he wanted his charger he should give him his money first.

"Right then I tried to push him and took the knife," he said."He came at me with full force and it stabbed him. He fell to the ground.

"I rushed him to hospital."

The case was postponed to August.
