'Super Eagles will go to next round'

NIGERIA'S Super Eagles, who arrived in the country yesterday to much fanfare from a contingent of supporters, will go through to the next round.

This is the view of the Nigerian journalists who have also jetted down to Soth Africa to keep 150million Nigerians back home informed about the team's preparations and progress.

Wole Shogunor of the Nigerian News Agency said the whole of Nigeria was firmly behind the team and were happy with the 23 players selected.

"It's a predicted selection. Most of the people knew (about) the players representing the country long before the team was actually announced," Shogunor said.

"Everybody is happy about the squad and trust the players"

He said the Super Eagles would only do well in this year's tournament only if had prepared well.

"If we prepare like we did when we won the 1994 African Cup of Nations we will go far in this tournament," he predicted.

"The team is under pressure to perform and the players always do better under pressure."

He said people back home were expecting nothing less than the team going through to the next round.

But the Super Eagles will have to clear their first hurdle against Argentina, a team captain Nwako Kanu warned that they would have to beat at any price.
