LIMPOPO poultry farmers want to play a key role in the provincial government's effort to eradicate poverty in the rural areas.

Yesterday, developing farmers received training at the Meadow Chicken Feeds in Pietermaritzburg. The training was sponsored by the Limpopo department of agriculture.

The farmers were trained on how to produce chickens that will generate more income for their businesses and also help fight poverty in their areas.

The delegations of farmers were accompanied by government officials, including scientists and technicians from the department of agriculture. The small farmers were trained by skilled Meadow Chicken Feeds staff.

Meadow Chicken Feeds manager Belemu Mkhetheni said the farmers were brought there to get exposure to the milling. The delegation will spend three days in the province. They will visit the Agricultural Show Grounds and Poultry Training Institute.
