LONDON - Arsenal have rejected a formal offer from Barcelona for their Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas and told the Catalan club they will not enter into any transfer negotiations.

LONDON - Arsenal have rejected a formal offer from Barcelona for their Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas and told the Catalan club they will not enter into any transfer negotiations.

"Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is under contract with the club until the summer of 2015," Arsenal said in a statement yesterday.

"He is a highly valued member of the team and part of our future plans.

"To be clear, we will not make any kind of counter-proposal or enter into any discussion."

Barcelona revealed yesterday they had presented a firm offer to the London club the previous day.

"Everyone knows Cesc wants to play for Barca and everyone also knows we want to sign him but there is a third party that is Arsenal," director general Joan Oliver told the club's website.

Fabregas said last month he had spoken to manager Arsene Wenger about what he wanted and had left it in his hands.

The player came through the Barca youth ranks before moving to Arsenal at 16 but has never made any secret of his desire to return to the Catalan giants at some stage.

l Thierry Henry has dismissed media reports that France coach Raymond Domenech threatened to leave him out of the World Cup if he refused to be a substitute.

It was reported that Domenech had met Henry before naming his squad and told him he would not be in the team if he did not accept being on the bench.

"I've been reading things that are totally unacceptable," said Henry.

"I don't know where all this comes from. The coach came to see me in Barcelona and said I would not start the matches and I accepted that."

The 32-year-old said he had no problem about losing his starting place to Chelsea's Nicolas Anelka. - Reuters
