AN EMOTIONAL SA Football Association president, Kirsten Nematandani, pictured , reminded Bafana that the country was supporting them.

"Forty-eight million people of South Africa are behind you - stand up and be counted."

He commended the players for their discipline and the progress they had made since they began their camps in Brazil and Germany.

Nematandani pleaded with the media to use the power they have to comment positively on the team.

He urged South Africans to take to the streets and blow their vuvuzelas on June 9 in support of the team. Bafana would play their last friendly international against Denmark on Friday.

l The DA wished Bafana Bafana good luck.

"The DA warmly welcomes the announcement of a final 23-man squad for the World Cup, and wishes our boys, along with head coach Carlos Parreira, the very best of luck," the party said.

It lauded the team's not losing in 11 matches as a "timely turnaround".

l IFP student wing, the SA Democratic Students' Movement, added its voice to the support for the national team.

Bafana's recent performances were encouraging andgave an indication that the team would do well in the World Cup.

The movement took a swipe at controversial England-based striker Benni McCarthy, who was left out of Parreira's final team.

"The exclusion of Benni sends a strong message to future stars of the game that pride and arrogance do not pay," it claimed. - Sapa
